Oh no! Ninomiya-kinjiro is reading ebook on iPad front of the bookstore in Shinjuku, Tokyo! I think this scene has ironic overtones. Japan is one of a country which is left in the dust of ebooks or etextbooks.
Ninomiya-Kinjiro is a well-known statue of learning in Japan. Over half of primary schools have this statue at the ground side.
Original statue is reading a book although carrying fuelwood on his shoulder. Most of Japanese think this is a figure of industriousness.

The Golden Ratio of Japanese school girl.
In Japanese culture, keeping the style (型 Kata: style/form/pattern) is very important thing. You can see several kinds of style from popular Japanese things. For example, Sushi should have rice roof and Neta (fish or something) on it. In other words, Most of Japanese could make out as Sushi if they watch a food which has small rice roof with Neta.
Moe (萌え: addiction) is come from faithful or loyalty of the style. Of course the style is changing as trends, and sometimes the style is implicit knowledge between addicts only.
This chart helps our understanding what is the elements of Moe about school girl. If Japan wants to export own culture, put the elements in the statutory form.

Kyary Pamyu Pamyu is a Harajuku-fashioned girl singer. Of course she is a Japanese girl.
The theme of her costume is “daughter of Zaibatsu family with bad personality”.

Thought on SOPA/PIPA

I think these are not good idea. Innovation of media experience or content business should be stopped. Japan is one of areas which has rigid system of contents’ rights and business practices. In Japan, we can’t build a search engine service on the web like Google because of the copyright law. We couldn’t laugh about this situation. Looking also a condition about e-books in Japan, you can see a trouble between new tech or business style and old contents’ companies. Japan has a lot of original device or global smartphones and tablets, but they hadn’t succeeded in developing the new media experiences. “Gugure-kas (ググれカス)” means “Just F***ing Google It” in Japanese web slang. If the US had SOPA, the words might not have been created. I’m talking about not only the words but also our noble lifestyle.

Ishinomaki is one of cities which were attacked by terrible tsunami on March 2011. But students shouldn’t stop studying and learning unless they lose their strong desire for future.

The beginning of the year in Japan is the season of entrance exams for junior high and high schools, and universities. Of course students who are living in tsunami area also have exams. But their school and house are totally destroyed, and they don’t have any desks, textbooks, and teachers.

The Ishinomaki Project is an aid for tsunami area students to make an environment to study and prepare for their exam. The project is organized by KDDI (mobile operator in Japan), Shingaku-kai (the largest educational foundation in Nagano, Japan), and Castalia (a startup company related in social learning platform).

KDDI provides XOOM Android tablets and Wi-Fi access, Shingaku-kai makes academic contents and know-how about making classes, and Castalia enables an environment of studying using tablets and social communication.

This is the biggest case of mobile and social learning in Japan. And they are showing students can study hard with the newest system and they feel much energy or hope for their future.

Back to 10 years

This is a first entry.

I try to write about future communication and lifestyle created and changed by tech in English. I’m not good at writing English. Please correct my text via comments.

I think 2000s’ mobile tech trend and culture in Japan hints big possibilities of the new trend of smartphone/social media. At the first, I’ll dig my blog posts which have written 10 years ago.
